The Crime Law department of the Ural State Law University is named after Mitrofan Ivanovch Kovalyov

Academic Council of the Ural State Law University gave a name of Mitrofan Ivanovich Kovalyov to the Crime

Law department on December, 18, 2023.

Mitrofan Ivanovich Kovalyov was elected as a Head of the Crime Law department in August 1955. He was

outstanding researcher, Ural scientific law school founder, Honored scientist of Russia, Doctor of Sciences in Law,

Honored Professor of the USLU, the Great Patriotic war veteran.

He was a Head of the Crime Law department from 1955 till 1988. He proved himself as a highly qualified

specialist, talented manager and tutor. Professor Kovalyov is an author of many research papers, books and textbooks

on legal science and state crime law.

M.I. Kovalyov contributed greatly in state criminological school and in new tendencies of crime law theory.

There was his book “Problems of legal protection of life, well being and genetic advantage of the human being”

published in 1996. It showed new direction in a legal science.

During the years of work under the leadership of M.I. Kovalyov many graduates were trained in the Crime Law

Department. Now graduates and department specialists continue his scientific researches. Many of them participate

as honored guests and speakers of the International Research-to-Practice Conference also named after Mitrofan

Ivanovch Kovalyov.
